Mac Throws A Hissy Fit…Again.

I got a call from my beautiful wife the other day. Well, let’s be honest, it was probably a text. Text messaging is of the devil by the way. Some folks see it as a way to communicate. My wife sees it as an unbelievably handy way to give me things to do. Anywho, she sent me a message. She wanted me to go to this website and order my oldest daughter some floor music. My two youngins do competitive gymnastics for those of you who didn’t know. So I did what I usually do when orders come in from the High Command. I got busy looking up this website. I found it and started swimming through the choices like a well dressed bull in a china shop. Christi gave me enough information to make it only marginally painful to find the song I was looking for. There it was. In all it’s glory. I started looking at the pricing. This is when, for lack of a better phrase, daddy’s head exploded.
$75. Seventy five dollars. For one song. For one minute of music with no words. That’s $4500 an hour in my way of thinking. That’s Tom Cruise money and Tom Cruise Scientology crazy right there. So I did what Dad’s do when we find out how much things cost. I gave Christi a call and threw me a grade “A” hissy fit. Christi did what she normally does and let me vent with absolutely no intention of listening to what I was saying. My wife is a sharp cookie. I am not exaggerating one bit when I tell you I have ZERO idea how much dance or gymnastics costs. I stay voluntarily ignorant and everybody is happy. But I was in the loop on this one and I didn’t like it one little bit.
After I finished whining to Christi, I started doing a little research on just what it was I had stepped into. These songs for floor routines are pretty specific. They have to be precisely timed to end correctly. They also have to have the correct tempo changes. Slower buildups to the faster paced tumbling runs. A gymnast will get deducted from for having bad music just as quick as falling down after doing a back flip. Who knew? Besides, if I was to clip a song in my library, I would have to do all the legwork on getting the copyrights and all that crap. After doing some digging, I at least somewhat understood why it was so expensive. This did not change the fact that I was not in this lifetime, or any other, paying $75 for one minute of music.
When Christi got home she asked if I had bought and downloaded the tune. I told her no but the page was still pulled up on the computer and she could go do it if she wanted. I just couldn’t do it. Not the least of reasons because I didn’t particularly want my father to come back from the grave and haunt my ass. Mac’s lesson for the day? I shoulda been a musician.

Been there, paid for that. Twice. If there’s any consolation, it’s that the words “gymnast” and “obese” are rarely used in the same sentence.

Just wait ’till they start askin’ for competition/meet fees PLUS fees for the coaches’ travel on top of everything else. Good times.

Text messaging is the best way for my husband and I to communicate, it eliminates any character we like to throw at one and another and gets straight to the point…And we like to send horrible pictures to each other (by we, I mean me and by each other I mean him).

I had no idea that music could cost so much, I also had no idea that the music meant so much during a routine. Although, now that it’s been said, it makes sense that that’s the case. I would have a hard time spending that kind of money, but I don’t have any girls in dance (yet..or maybe never, IDK).

The boys’ cost with the motorcycles makes me want to cry. I like not knowing. In fact, I’ve recently been secretly wishing that I could be put on an allowance and never have to know what the bills are like (ever!). Or to abandon any responsibility I have. Excuse me, I’m having a selfish moment.

      Ahem…

      $75?! I wish was a musician too!
