Are you one of those people, like me, who doesn’t really give two shakes what folks think about you? Or do you like saying it because it sounds hip but deep down, you really do care? I think everyone cares on some level. If not, why did you get dressed before you left the house this morning? Peer pressure, that’s why. Societal norms. You would be arrested for walking around in your birthday suit. It’s just not decent (say that last line with thick southern drawl for effect). But what is decent? A lady can wear a bathing suit with the string ran where the sun don’t shine and nobody thinks twice. But you see a woman in her bra…OOH THE HORROR. She’s a loon and probably a whore. I can’t listen to pop stations with my children in the car. I don’t think I have morphed into the crotchety old man or maybe I have. But EVERY song is about sex. That catchy little ditty by FloRida, “Whistle”. You do know that’s about oral sex, right?
I don’t really have some mind blowing point that I am working my way up to. I am just rambling. What got me to thinking about this stuff this morning was a Douglas Adams quote. “The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be”. Pretty profound statement. Depending on where you are on the planet, you are currently moving at between 700 and 1000 miles per hour due to the Earth’s rotation. We go through our daily lives like “meh, my mundane life is so boring” when, in fact, we should all be holding on for dear life and going “WHHEEEEEEEEEE!!!”. It’s all relative, is it not Mr. Einstein?

I Don’t Care What You Think…OK, Maybe I Do A Little.

What would you call that moment in time when you realize an entire week passed by without notice, causing your breath to momentarily seize while you hold on to some form of thought relating to the time lost in order to steady yourself? Whatever it is called, I shall now refer to it as “The Whheeee! Factor”
I’ve come to the realization that every song is about sex as well and decided to take a look back at the songs I listened to (regularly) that were clearly about sex and I had no idea…the power of naivety was strong in me. It’s my hope that whatever the kids do hear (when they hear it) is that it is greatly misunderstood on the side of fluffiness and an odd style of wording.
