Quote of the Week:
“My song of the week–no special meaning or message. I just like it. A lot.” Ash
For those of you new to Thursday Pickin’, TB humbly apologizes. Not only for my own ineptitude, but on behalf of the entire Missing the Ground Universe. Mostly for myself though. I stumbled out of the gates, much like a certain maroon-clad football team stumbling out of their tunnel smoke. I dropped my opening POTW and went 1-4 on bonus picks. Expect a lot of that this year. The MTGU as a whole fared slightly better, going 13-14-1 on Picks of the Week and 29-41 on bonus picks. We might have broken even if Harmony’s niece had been available, but in her absence, Harmo picked a non-existent college game, San Francisco. I gave her points for that, rationalizing that I would have been much better off to have followed her lead.
Tiny D got list of the week and brazen newcomer Ash picked up song of the week honors, as chosen by Sweet. Krebs almost became the first person to be sent to the MTGU’s musical black hole, but I have to admit that I almost laughed once during his SOTW. Almost. Criminy, I need a shower after watching that Gangla Style or whatever it was–I can’t go back to check.
Back to our collective performance……for any of you out there who may be degenerate gamblers…..and keep in mind, gambling’s illegal unless you’re in Vegas….we usually do pretty well. In fact, if someone would have bet with the MTGU and it’s TBU predecessor for the last four years on not only our picks of the week, but our bonus bets too, well, that person would’ve made a lot of money. And while past performance is no guarantee of future success, as they say, the fact that we got a bad weekend out of the way before you had this knowledge should, statistically, be to your benefit if you decide to test us beginning in Week 2.
For those of you playing the side game, keep in mind that my patented Unnecessarily Complex But More or Less Fair Scoring System is not in use for scoring our POTW’s. I’ll list everybody who says they are playing and who has paid in the comments, and each week I’ll post the POTW records for all pool members. As for the pUCBMoLFSS, without explaining all the subsections and exceptions, the game is based on the idea that you are in Vegas with a bankroll. If you put all that bankroll on one game and win, you did as well as anybody else could have with the same bankroll who bet multiple games. That’s why an all-in gets as many points as a 4-1 bonus picker. That’s why going all-in is the best way to win this game too. If you’re a chicken. Also, if you win your POTW, you cannot get less points than the biggest loser.
Shout out this week to BW Buzz. Lost his POTW and went 0-5. Ouch. Fish and Larry hit their DOTW’s. You get a pat on the back for that.
On with the Standings after one week, and by the way, where the hell is Zeek? One more thing, bonus picks only are in parentheses. The top 13 won their POTW, Harmony got a Judge’s tie and everybody else lost.
